About

My name is Fiona Sandford. I am 24 years old. Since 2007 I have suffered from depression.
Not until 2009 did I realise that what was making me feel so flat all the time was depression. I have battled it with the help of psychologists and have recently started on anti-depressants.
When I was diagnosed I decided I needed a goal to work towards. I set my mind on the 2010 Speights Coast to Coast. Having a goal to work towards – especially something that big – made a huge change in my life. It gave me something positive to look forward to.
I have decided that I am going to compete again in 2013 to show, both myself and others, how far I have come since I was diagnosed and first started training for this event.
I’m fundraising for Lifeline Aotearoa because they were a huge help in making me understand that depression is nothing to be ashamed of, and that the best way to get better is to get help, to talk about things.
I really want to give back to them, and to me this seems like the perfect opportunity!
